One suspect was in arrest and a second suspect Friday was in jail after a security guard in Gary, Indiana has been shot dead, sources said.
In a late afternoon incident, the two suspects, armed with a pistol and a rifle, attacked the ward outside a First Midwest Bank branch.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Sheriff’s Office in Indiana stated the suspects entered the bank and asked for money.
K-9 units assisted to locate one of the suspects but the information was imprecise, reports the newspaper.
Richard Castellana, a former deputie with the Illinois offices of the Cook County Sheriff, has been identified as the murdered guard, FOX 32 reported.
“We are sorry to learn of the unfortunate death of Richard Castellana, our former Sheriff’s deputy,” the office of Cook County Sheriff stated in a statement. “Castellana’s deputy served Cook County for 35 years until he retired in 2019. His co-workers and friends will miss him very much. We offer his family and loved ones our sincere sympathy.”
The Sun-Times stated that the FBI participated in the probe.
